FICTION: You will hear a lot of here-say, rumor and opinions about braided lines and the damage they can do to a rod, particularly to the guides. It’s all a bunch of nonsense. A fiber as soft and smooth as silk cannot cut through metal, ceramic, alconite, zirconium, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide or whatever else your guides are made of. FACT: If you fish the right pound test line with your rod, you will not have any problems with broken rods. Example: A Penn 113H on a Star 30-80# Stand up rod loaded with 800 yards of 50# Power Pro. You can and will break rods with power pro if you don’t use it properly. An example of that would be to take a nice light spinning outfit… say a Shimano Sahara 4000 on a Daiwa Coastal Inshore both designed for use with 8-15# line and you spool it up with 30# Power Pro. The rod cannot take the strain of 30# line fished like it was 30# line. You will break your rod. However, if you fish it with your drag set like it was 15# line… everything is perfect. You have the line capacity, sensitivity and hook setting power of the Power Pro and the drag set to accommodate the outfit. I fish 20# and 30# Power Pro on that outfit all the time and it is ideal.
